DEIS Plan 2017 Launched

The Minister for Education & Skills launched the DEIS Plan 2017 on DES
Monday, 13 February.
The Plan identifies over 100 actions to tackle educational disadvantage.   These include

  • Mandatory book Rental Scheme from September 2017
  • Access to a dedicated Career Guidance Counsellor
  • Establishment of a DEIS Development Unit within the Department
  • Appointment of an additional 10 NEPS Psychologists

First Annual National Teacher Awards Jan 2017

NAPD members, other members of staff, students and parents are invited to
nominate teachers online at teacher for The Better Examinations National Teacher Awards.   The Awards, supported by NAPD, will recognise teachers for their ability to work beyond the classroom and contribute to improving student life within the school.

The awards ceremony will be held on Friday, 24th March at Trinity College, Dublin.


New Model for allocation of Resource Teachers announced Jan 2017

The Minister for Education & Skills, Richard Bruton TD announced on 18th January ncse
that a new model for allocating Special Education Teaching Resources will be introduced from September 2017.

The new model is being implemented on advice from the NCSE following  a pilot scheme in 47 schools.   It will be based on the profiled special educational need of each school.
