ICT Grants for 2017 Announced

The Minister for Education & Skills, Richard Bruton, TD, has announced an investment of
€30 million in ICT bruton 2017infrastructure grants marking the start of the Government's €210 million Digital Strategy for schools.

This year's grant is worth circa €15,000 for a 500 student school.

The funding will support the development and implementation of an eLearning Plan in each school.

PISA 2015 Results Published

The Minister for Education & Skills, Richard Bruton, TD, has welcomed the latest OECD PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment)results which show that, in 2015, Ireland's 15 year olds are among the best in OECD countries in reading and are performing significantly higher than the OECD average in Mathematics & Science.

Patrons for nine new schools announced Nov 2016

The Minister for Education & Skills, Richard Bruton, TD, has announced the patronage of des
nine new Post-Primary Schools due to be established in 2017 and 2018 in Dublin, Laois and Limerick.
Educate Together will be the patron of four schools,  ETB's will be responsible for two, ETB's  (with another Trustee partner) two schools and the Edmund Rice Schools Trust one school.

Budget 2017: Second Deputy Principal for schools with 700 plus students

A second Deputy Principal in schools with enrolments of 700 students and over is among budget 2017
the provisions of the 2017 Budget for the Department of Education & Skills.
Schools which already have two Deputy Principals will get an extra DP post and
non-DEIS schools with 900 - 999 pupils will get two additional DP's.   Measures to commence the restoration of Middle Management posts will also be introduced from September 2017.
Other provisions at Second Level include:

  • 290 extra teachers to meet demographics
  • 100 extra teachers arising from Guidance Enhancement
  • 550 teaching posts arising from Junior Cycle Professional Hours
  • 170 teaching posts in supports for school leadership
  • 320 additional resource teacher posts
  • €130 million to meet the costs of the Lansdowne Agreement
  • Separate allocation for Guidance ex-quota
  • Staffing schedule will revert to 19 to 1
  • A new model for allocation of teaching resources for SEN from September 2017
  • commencement of an investment programme to upgrade ICT infrastructure in all schools.
