About Graham Powell

Graham first presented to NAPD Conference in 2012.  Since then he has conducted multiple series of Learning & Teaching workshops for NAPD across the country, involving Principals, Deputies and teachers from hundreds of schools.

Graham has also been working with schools throughout Ireland for the past six years. He is the initiator, with Guy Claxton, of The Learning Power Approach and their book on what this means across the curriculum in secondary schools will be published at the end of 2018.

His well-received courses are practical and interactive; they have led to radical changes in classroom practice, with many Irish schools working collaboratively to enhance the professional development of teachers and ultimately to improve learning experiences for students.

About Mike Hughes

Mike made his first presentation to NAPD Conference in 2013.  In the time since then, he has conducted annual series of Learning & Teaching workshops for NAPD across the country, involving Principals, Deputies and teachers from hundreds of schools. Mike also works with individual schools, clusters of schools and groups in different ETBs.

Mike is a prolific author of many celebrated education books – best known are Tweak to Transform, The Main Thing is Learning, A Policy for Learning and, most recently, The Magenta Principles.  He is currently working on the Irish Magenta Principles, written for an Irish context and with examples of lessons devised by Irish teachers.  This book will be launched at the NAPD Conference in Galway in October 2018.

The term Magenta Principles has become part of the vocabulary in many schools and is now regularly referenced in WSE Reports.
